Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo becomes a Chelsea player in a transfer worth nearly $200 million.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of Ecuadorian national team member Moises Caicedo,” Chelsea said on the club’s official website on Friday.
Born in 2001, the Ecuadorian midfielder has been a regular in the Premier League at a young age, attracting interest from big European clubs. He earned a call-up to the Ecuadorian national team for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they were knocked out by the Netherlands and Senegal in the round of 16, but played in all three group games and scored in the final game against Senegal.
With a strong physical presence and the ability to contribute in the attacking third, Caicedo’s young age and potential to improve made him a target for big clubs during the winter transfer window in January. At the time, Arsenal showed a lot of interest, and Kaysedo even made a statement on social media about his desire to move to a big club.
However, the move did not materialize, and the player re-signed with his club Brighton & Hove Albion in the winter transfer window.
When the season ended and the summer transfer window opened, Kaysedo was once again on the move, and it was an exciting spectacle as Premier League giants Chelsea and Liverpool battled for his signature.
Chelsea were the favorites in the race for Kaido. But just as the season was about to begin and Chelsea was struggling to meet Brighton’s asking price, Liverpool swooped in and agreed to pay Brighton a whopping £110 million for the player.
Unable to keep Caido from Liverpool, Chelsea eventually decided to open their wallets. According to European soccer transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea told Brighton that they were willing to pay £115 million, more than Liverpool.
After receiving astronomical offers from Chelsea and Liverpool, Brighton left it up to Kaysedo to decide where to go next. After much deliberation, Kaysedo chose to wear the Chelsea shirt he so desperately wanted instead of Liverpool’s.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of Kaysedo, who joins us from Brighton on an eight-year contract with an option to extend for a further year,” said Chelsea in a statement.
This makes him the most expensive player in English Premier League history. The previous Premier League transfer record was held by Chelsea’s Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who cost £107 million ($181.5 million).
Enzo, who won the World Cup Young Player of the Year award after helping Argentina win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, joined Chelsea in February for a record-breaking fee. Just six months after breaking the transfer record with the signing of Enzo, Chelsea broke their own record with the signing of Caido.
Kaysedo was overjoyed to finally join Chelsea and become a big club player. “I’m very happy to join Chelsea, I’m very excited to come to this club and when they called me I didn’t have to think twice,” he told the club.
“Coming to Chelsea is a dream come true and I can’t wait to hit the ground running with the team,” he said. “I am confident that I will win many trophies at this amazing club and put Chelsea where they deserve to be.”
“Claude Makelele and N’Golo Kante inspired me, they were so humble on the pitch,” he added, “I would say we share similar qualities, but they were better. Still, I will now give everything for this club,” he insisted.안전놀이터
“I’ve been following Chelsea and watching their games since I was a kid, and it’s amazing to be here now,” he added, “Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I want to start with the players, do my best and write my own story.”
