Gimpo FC produces two Olympic reserve players… Defenders Cho Sung-kwon and Lee Sang-hyuk “Happy to have a good opportunity”

Gimpo FC defenders Cho Sung-kwon and Lee Sang-hyuk have been named to the final training roster for the 2024 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-23 (U23) Cup qualifiers.

The Korea Football Association announced the roster for the tournament on Nov. 22, led by head coach Hwang Sun-hong. Cho Sung-kwon, who has been a key part of Gimpo’s defense, was named first, and Lee Sang-hyuk was added on the 28th.

Gimpo has two Olympic reserves.

The call-up will take place in Changwon from August 28 to September 3, and the final roster will be confirmed after the training camp.

Despite this being their debut season, both players have been impressive. Cho Sung-kwon has been playing consistently since the beginning of the season, contributing greatly to the stabilization of the defense and build-up work. In particular, he has led Gimpo to the fewest goals conceded in the K League 2 with a staggering 17 in 26 games. Lee Sang-hyuk, who joined the team this summer, has also moved from defense to midfield, and has been a great addition to Gimpo’s midfield with eight appearances since July.스포츠토토

Both Cho Sung-kwon and Lee Sang-hyuk said, “It’s not the final roster yet, but I’m happy to get a good opportunity. We will do our best to become better players, whether in the club or the national team,” both said. “We are also grateful to the fans of Gimpo FC for their support and encouragement.”

Meanwhile, the Olympic team, which also includes Cho Sung-kwon and Lee Sang-hyuk, will announce the final 23-man roster after the call-up training. The team will then play three qualifying matches for the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup at the Changwon Football Center from September 4-13.
