Choi Won-tae, who LG brought in to win a championship, struggles with 8.27 ERA since joining the club and is out of the first team

Right-handed pitcher Choi Won-tae (26), who struggled mightily after joining the LG baseball team, has been released from the first team.

LG, which is trying to win its first championship in 29 years since 1994, has been struggling all season with an unstable starting lineup. Especially in the middle of the season, starting pitchers such as Lee Min-ho and Kim Yun-sik faltered and were dismissed from the first team due to poor performance.메이저놀이터

In response, LG made a bold decision on July 29 to bring in Choi Won-tae, who was playing for Kiwoom. They traded outfielder Lee Ju-hyung (22), right-handed pitcher Kim Dong-gyu (19), and a 2024 first-round pick to Kiwoom for Choi Won-tae.

Both Lee Ju-hyung and Kim Dong-kyu were promising prospects for LG, having excelled in the Futures (second division) league this season. However, LG decided to give up on the future and make a splashy bet to win the championship.

Choi Won-tae made 17 appearances in a Kiwoom uniform this season, going 6-4 with a 3.25 ERA. LG was desperate for him to be a part of their starting rotation.

In his first game with LG, he seemed to fulfill expectations. On July 30, Choi made his first start against Doosan in Jamsil, where he threw six innings of two-hit shutout ball to get LG fans excited.

However, in his next six games, he went 1-2 with a 10.13 ERA. Including his LG debut, Choi’s post-transfer performance was poor with a 2-2 record and an 8.27 ERA in seven games.

In the end, LG manager Yeom Kyung-yeop decided to cancel Choi’s first-team assignment on November 11 to give him time to regroup. For the time being, Kim Yun-sik and Lee Jung-yong are expected to fill the void left by Choi Won-tae.

On the same day, Kiwoom removed pitcher Byun Si-won and outfielder Lee Hyung-jong from their rosters, KIA removed pitcher Kim Gun-guk, NC removed outfielder Jeon Jae-hwan, and Samsung removed pitcher Kim Si-hyun. SSG, which has struggled with two wins, one draw and seven losses in its last 10 games, removed infielders Kim Chan-hyung and Jeon Eui-san and pitcher Lee Ki-soon from the first team.
