Hosted by the Gyeonggi-do Sports Federation and organized by Goyang City and Goyang City Sports Association, the festival held its opening ceremony at 6 p.m. on the 15th at Goyang Sports Complex, with more than 5,000 people in attendance, including Gyeonggi-do Vice Governor Oh Byung-kwon, Gyeonggi-do Assembly Speaker Yeom Jong-hyun, Goyang Special City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan, Goyang Special City Council Chairman Kim Young-shik, Gyeonggi-do Assembly Culture and Sports Committee Chairman Lee Young-bong, Gyeonggi-do Sports Federation President Lee Won-sung, mayors and counties, heads of sports organizations, officials and athletes.스포츠토토

Prior to the opening ceremony, a pre-ceremony public event was held at 5 p.m. with a percussion performance by the Goyang Yeonggo Beautiful Dance Company, congratulatory performances by the Goyang Dance Company, Goyang Taekwondo City Group, and Goyang Choreographers Association, and a screening of a promotional video for Goyang City.

At the official opening ceremony, athletes from 31 cities and counties, including the upcoming host city of Seongnam, entered the arena, followed by the opening declaration by Goyang City Sports Chairman Ahn Un-seop, and the tournament flag was raised amidst the sound of victory songs. Goyang Mayor Lee Dong-hwan welcomed the athletes with a welcome speech, and Gyeonggi-do Sports Chairman Lee Won-sung delivered a speech, followed by congratulatory remarks from First Vice Governor Oh Byung-kwon, Gyeonggi-do Assembly Speaker Yeom Jong-hyun, and Goyang City Council Chairman Kim Young-sik.

The ceremony concluded with the oaths of Choi Jong-cheol and Kim Hae-ryun (Goyang City-Badminton), who represented the participating athletes, and the opening ceremony reached its climax with congratulatory performances by popular singers Oh My Girl, Jang Yoon-jung, and Lee Chan-won from 7 p.m. onward.

“The Gyeonggi-do Life Sports Festival is not just a sports event, but a festival of friendship and harmony with 14 million people,” said Gyeonggi-do Sports Chairman Lee Won-seong in his speech. “We will do our best to ensure a fun and safe tournament with the passion and support of the people of Gyeonggi-do, as the slogan says.”

In his congratulatory remarks, First Vice Governor Oh Byung-kwon said, “Gyeonggi-do, the ‘Capital of Opportunity,’ is striving to create a sports culture where everyone can enjoy the opportunity to play sports and compete fairly.” He emphasized, “We hope that this event will become a place of unity where 31 cities and counties will unite as one Gyeonggi-do through the passion and teamwork of everyday athletes.”

In his welcome speech, Goyang Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “I am pleased that the Living Sports Festival will be held in Goyang City three years after it was canceled due to COVID-19 in 2020. We hope to create a dynamic and inspiring place of unity for the people of Gyeonggi-do by transforming it into a festival of harmony that is enjoyed by participating together rather than competing.”

Meanwhile, through the 17th, 233 athletes (16,924 athletes and 3,109 officials) from 31 cities and counties will compete in 25 events (20 official events and 5 demonstration events) to showcase their skills and build friendships with each other.
