In his first start in three days, Ji-Man Choi (32, San Diego Padres) reached base multiple times. But he didn’t get his first hit since his long-awaited trade.
Choi started the 2023 Major League Baseball home game against the Colorado Rockies at Petco Park in San Diego, California, U.S., on Sept. 20 (local time), batting fifth and playing first base. Kim missed his third consecutive game due to unexplained abdominal pain.
Choi, who had been benched for two days after the Oakland Athletics on April 17, returned to the starting lineup three days after Colorado started right-hander Ryan Feltner.
In his first at-bat with a runner on first base in the bottom of the second inning, Choi hit a five-pitch slider on a 2-2 count, but was left stranded at first base.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Choi took his second at-bat with the bases loaded and a 2-1 pitch, a four-seam fastball. After Jurickson Profar grounded out to shortstop, Matthew Batten singled, advancing Choi to second base with runners in scoring position, but Trent Grisham struck out to end the threat.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, with both teams tied at 0-0, Choi stepped to the plate for the third time with runners on first and second. Facing Colorado reliever Cabin Hallowell, Choi struck out swinging on a four-pitch high fastball on a 1-2 pitch count.
Choi stepped up to the plate again in the bottom of the eighth with runners on first and second. After striking out on two consecutive pitches to put him at an 0-2 disadvantage, Choi drew four pitches in a row to put runners on the corners, but Profar struck out the side in order.먹튀검증
The score remained 0-0 through the eighth inning. In the bottom of the ninth inning, San Diego struck first when Xander Bogaerts hit a two-run home run on a full count with two outs to secure a 2-0 victory and extend their winning streak to six games. San Diego starter Blake Snell (14-9, 2.33 ERA) pitched a no-hitter with seven innings of four-hit ball and 10 strikeouts, but couldn’t get any support from his offense and will have to wait until next time for his 15th win of the season.
