‘Seung-Jang’ Lee’s first words, “I hope Jang Jae-Young is not seriously injured”

The first words out of his mouth after the win were for the opposing pitcher. Doosan Bears manager Lee Seung-yeop expressed genuine concern.

Doosan won 7-2 at home against the Kiwoom Heroes in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul on April 2. The Bears stayed in fourth place and closed the gap on third-place NC. It snapped a three-game losing streak for league-low Kiwoom.

Left-hander Brandon Waddell pitched six innings of three-hit ball, walking two and striking out three to earn the win. He earned his 10th win of the season (3-0).

It was the seventh time in KBO history and first for the Bears that a reliever has completed 10 wins. Brandon joins Galvez (Samsung) with 10 wins in 2001, Elvira (Samsung) with 13 in 2002, Oxspring (Lotte) with 13 in 2013, Sosa (Nexen) with 10 in 2014, Brigham (Nexen) with 10 in 2017, and Cuevas (KT) with 11 in 2023.

It was also his 16th start of the season and 11th quality start (6+ innings or less).

Park pitched the remaining innings. He cruised through the seventh and eighth before giving up two runs in the ninth. He earned the save with three innings of two-run ball. It was his first save since his debut in 2015.

At the plate, Yang Seok-hwan went 4-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, Park Joon-young went 3-for-1 with a home run and two RBIs, Kang Seung-ho went 4-for-2 with a home run and one RBI, and Yang Ji-ji went 3-for-1 with a home run and one RBI.

After the game, manager Lee Seung-yeop said, “I hope Jang Jae-young is not seriously injured. I’m very worried. I hope we can see him back on the field soon.”

Jang Jae-young is Kiwoom’s right-handed starting pitcher. He started the game but ran into injury trouble in the first inning. He faced Yang Seok-hwan with the bases loaded. Yang took a three-pitch pitch from Jang Jae-young. The pitch went right at Jang and hit him in the back of the head.

Jang stayed on the mound and checked his condition with the medical staff and trainers. Coach Lee Seung-yeop immediately took the mound and looked at Jang with concern.

Fortunately, Jang got up and walked to the dugout, where he was immediately taken to Gangnam Severance Hospital for further examination. The CT scan showed nothing unusual. “He was hit in the head, so we will continue to monitor his condition,” Kiwoom said.스포츠토토

Kiwoom brought in Yoon Seok-won in relief of Jang Jae-young. Doosan capitalized on Yoon, scoring four runs in the first inning alone. They took a 4-0 lead. They added two more runs in the third and one in the sixth.

Despite the complete game victory, Lee couldn’t shake his concerns about Jang Jae-young and was the first to mention him.

“Today (Feb. 2), we were able to win because the players did their part in the offense. I’m also grateful to the fans.”
