‘2-straight wins’ manager Lee Seung-yeop “Kwak Bin pitched well…praised the focus of the batters”

As the Doosan Bears look toward the postseason, the victory was more valuable than ever.

Doosan extended its winning streak to two games with a 3-1 victory over the KIA Tigers in the regular season finale of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul on Wednesday. Doosan ended the season with a 12-4 record against KIA, improving its record to 73-2 and 65-2.

The star of the game was undoubtedly starting pitcher Kwak Bin. He threw 109 pitches in six innings, allowing two hits, two walks, nine strikeouts and one run to earn his 12th win of the season. It was his second consecutive quality start after his last outing against the Gwangju KIA on March 18.

The bullpen, which pitched one inning each, also shined. All pitchers from Hong Gun-hee to Kim Kang-ryul pitched one scoreless inning, and Kim Kang-ryul, who came on in the top of the ninth inning, pitched a scoreless inning to earn his first save in 527 days since May 4 against LG.

At the plate, the tablesetters worked hard to set the table. Leadoff man Jung Soo-bin was the only player on the team to record a multi-hit game, going 4-for-4 with a double and a run scored, while Cho Su-hyun chipped in with 4-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Foreign-born Jose Rojas, who had a three-hit game at home against NC the day before, went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a walk to set up the team’s big inning in the bottom of the third. While all the batters combined for just five hits on the day, it was the ability to capitalize on big opportunities that led to the win.스포츠토토

After the game, Doosan head coach Lee Seung-yeop said, “Kwak Bin pitched well. “The bullpen did their part as well,” he said, “with Yang Yang-ji throwing six innings of one-run ball. Hong Gun-hee, Kim Myung-shin, and Kim Kang-ryul pitched one inning each,” he said, praising the pitchers’ performance.

“At the plate, I would like to praise the concentration of the batters. After two outs in the bottom of the third inning, Heo Kyung-min persistently fought the count and drew a walk, and Jung Soo-bin, Cho Sun-sung, and Rojas had valuable consecutive hits,” he said.

“It was a very important game, and we were able to win thanks to the support of our fans. I am grateful to them,” he said.

Doosan will play a two-game series against LG in Jamsil on the 14th and 15th, and SSG on the 16th and 17th at Jamsil and Incheon SSG Landers Field, respectively. The starting pitcher on the 14th is Brandon Waddell.
