New faces in pro basketball…who’s the best rookie?

There are plenty of new faces to keep an eye on in professional basketball this season. In addition to the “Big Three,” the homegrown rookies who dominated the collegiate scene, there are also a number of foreign players who have left their home countries and found a new home in Korea.

In the 2023 Korean Basketball League (KBL) rookie draft, the “Big 3” were in the spotlight as they will be responsible for the future of their respective clubs. They are Moon Jung-hyun (22), Park Mubin (22), and Yoo Yoo-sang (22). All of them dominated the college scene and were immediately recognized for their power in the pros.

Forward Moon Jung-hyun has a variety of attacking routes and a great ability to read the flow of the game, and he was the only college player selected to the Hangzhou Asian Games team. Guard Yoo Yoo-sang has a unique shooting talent, while Park Mubin is an offensive guard with excellent penetration.

In the rookie draft, which took place on March 21, Moon was selected by Suwon KT with the No. 1 overall pick. The second-ranked Ulsan Hyundai Mobis selected Park Mubin, and the third-ranked Changwon LG selected Yoo Yoo-sang. In addition to these players, Jo Joon-hee, a rookie who was a surprise selection of the Seoul Samsung with the fourth overall pick, is expected to play with his unique athleticism and energy.굿모닝토토 도메인

The performance of the new foreign players is also worth noting. After finishing last for two consecutive seasons, Samsung ambitiously brought in 210-centimeter center Kofi Coburn. Boasting one of the biggest bodies in the KBL, Coburn will be a big boost for a team that has struggled in the battle under the basket.

Another promising foreign player is Busan KCC’s Alize Johnson. Johnson was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2023 KBL Cup, a sign of things to come in the league.

It’s also worth noting that each club has one Asian quarterback. Although he is no longer with the team, Ronjay Abarientos of the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis became the first foreign player to win the Rookie of the Year award last season. This season, there will be another surge of Filipino AsiaQuarter players. Samsung, Seoul SK, and Goyang Sono all have new Filipino AsiaQuarter players, and Samsung’s newest addition, Avan Nava, is expected to make a big contribution to the team with his quick dribbling and outside shooting.
