Men’s handball ‘fails to qualify’ as Qatar hold on for semis

South Korea men’s handball ended the Asian Qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in third place.

Led by head coach Hollande Freitas, the Koreans defeated Qatar 38-32 in the third-place match on Monday in Doha, Qatar.

The victory was a fitting end to a disappointing campaign for Korea, which lost to Japan in the semifinals.

Park Kwang-soon (Hanam City Hall) led the way with 11 points, while Kim Jin-young and Song Je-woo (Korea Gymnastics University) contributed eight and seven points, respectively. Goalkeeper Kim Dong-wook (Doosan) made 10 saves. The players will now play in the newly launched H-League, a unified handball league, before reconvening for the Asian Championships in Bahrain next January.

Meanwhile, the tournament was won by Japan. The Japanese defeated Bahrain 32-29 in the final to punch their ticket to the Paris Olympics, which is awarded to the winner of the tournament.먹튀검증

Japan won the title in six games, including a sweep of South Korea. Japan qualified as the host nation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, marking their second consecutive appearance at the tournament. South Korea, on the other hand, will miss its third consecutive Olympic Games since London 2012.
